Genesis 37:3- ” Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. “Coat in Hebrew same word used in Genesis 3:21 Genesis 3:21- God made robe for Adam & Eve .You might mess up but the love of God covers you . Jacob his father loved hence he made coat for him, today Jesus loves us hence he clothes us with garments of righteousness. Joseph’s history we see something of Christ, who was first humbled and then exalted. It also shows the lot of Christians, who must through many tribulations enter into the kingdom.Coat of many colours in Hebrew is Kethoneth passim in Hebrew. It was a royal garment. Why was the coat of many colours given to Joseph ? First, let’s look at why Joseph was loved more than his siblings. Jacob recognized Joseph’s birth to Rachel as a blessing from God. The named Joseph means “may he add” in Hebrew. Secondly, Jacob saw that Joseph had been gifted with dreams revealing God’s plans. Indeed, Jacob held this son to be very special and knew God had determined Joseph to be a great leader. The coat was a token of this great love and recognition. It was that Garment or coat which made Joseph different than his other brothers. His brothers became angry and jealous and somehow wanted to snatch the garment Joseph was wearing. Finally they were successful. Genesis 37:23 – ” So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colours that he wore. So always remember that devil likes to expose you but God’s love covers your weakness. Always be on guard that the enemy is behind your garments of righteousness. God bless you.
